Split in main beam

I recently was doing some basement work and noticed there was a split in the wood beam for my home. The split appears to be parallel with the beam and it looks like a few small splits that make up the entire split length. The split goes into the wood at over an inch in some areas. I wanted to know if this is something I should be concerned with. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.
